Paramotor Training

What to Expect

Objectives

I aim to focus on each students individual learning tendencies and capitalize on past experiences.

By the end of the training process students will be ready to safely and confidently identify suitable flying sites, choose appropriate weather for flying, and launch, fly, and land unsupervised.

The Process

Kiting: you will learn to control the paraglider by flying the paraglider from standing on the ground, similar to flying a kite.

Ground training: we will cover some basic knowledge topics related to FAA regulations, airspace, paramotor maintenance, weather, etc.

Hanging simulator: by hanging in your flight gear just above ground from an overhead set of risers we can properly adjust your harness and teach body position for launching, landing, and in flight maneuvers,

Bunny flight/winch training: Your first encounter with solo flight will be short (80-100’) flights utilizing a winch system. This allows you to become familiar with launching and landing prior to having motorized equipment on your back.

Initial paramotor training: During your first several flights you will be under careful supervision during all phases of flight, from preflight/glider lay out to direct radio contact during launch, flight, and landing. We will repeat flights until launching, landing, and turning are able to be accomplished safely and consistently.

Advanced flight training:

There is a LOT more to know about paramotor flight beyond initial paramotor training. My goal is to create a community of pilots that can help mentor each other as we progress in our skill.

To accomplish this I continue to invite pilots that are interested to come out to my flight park and keep progressing in their skills while flying with me or under light supervision.

How it works

SCHEDULING: Contact to schedule.

Morning and evening training sessions are offered most weekends from June through September.

Weekday training sessions are a possibility, reach out and we will try to match schedules.

EQUIPMENT: I offer instruction on my gear for the first several sessions which include kiting/launch training with a paraglider, gear familiarization, ground school, and short winch powered flights.

Once you are ready to add the motor I will assist you through the process in finding perfectly fitted new gear or adequate used gear, depending on your budget and continue training on your gear.

COST: $150 per 4 hour training session.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

The length of time required to learn to successfully aviate a paramotor depends on previous experience, personal aptitude, and the effort you put into kiting on your own.

In my experience I have found the following to be true most of the time.

Kiting/ground training: 2-5 sessions

First flights on winch: 1-3 sessions

Paramotor flights: 2-5 sessions

Where We Train

We train on a private lakeside property near Woodworth, ND that offers open airspace, camping, camper rental, and scenic recreation opportunities.
